Jai Shree Krishna Vallah Vaishnavs,
Why do vaishnav's on the day of Dussera place zavera on Thakorji's forehead?

Jai jai shri gokulesh
On dushera the 'javara' is offered to Thakurji in bhog-sandhya
arati. The utsav of Dashera signifies Swamiji's win over
Thakurji. Swaminiji's charnarvind has the sign of 'jau' engraved and
Thakurji saw this once. So accepting his defeat Thakurji adorns
the 'javara'(a grown 'jau') on his forehead on Dushera. 'Javara' is
like a grown grass about 10-12 inches long. On the first day of
Navratri the seeds of 'jau' are sprinkled in a vessel filled with
sand. This sprinkling of the seed is done with much fanfare in the
haveli and is done by Vallabhkul Acharya. The ritual is called 'ankur-
aropan'. Then till the tenth day the seed grows into a 10-12 inch grass
which then is collected, cleaned and offered to Thakurji. It is placed
on Thakurji's forehead like a 'mayur-pankh'.

Jai Shree Krishna & Jai Jai Shree Gokulesh
Thanks Unnatiji, that was a lovely explanation. I brought this topic up again because Pusthidasji discussed Zavera in satsang last Friday. He told us a varta of why Yashodaji used to place Zavera on Thakorji’s forehead. Yashodaji was convinced that the Zavera had saved Thakorji from Brahmaji. Could anyone please narrate this story on Krishnaseva as it’s so lovely?
Thanks

Jai Jai ShriGokulesh,
Good explainations by Vaishnavas. Also i would like to add only this that Dushera comes after Nav-Vilas, these days the rains had stopped and the cold days starts. Moreover the farmers start their farming and starts seeding their Farms. So after the rains, the farms r still filled with water and the new seeds when seeded i fields, it gives grows. And the very first step of that food-grain is then offered to ShriPrabhu-ShriGurucharan on the day of Dushara. As ShriRamchandraji got Victory and Liberated Ravana. So in Honour of the Victory also Javara is been cutted from the fields, and offered to ShriPrabhu-ShriGurucharan. _________________ Jai Jai ShriGokulesh Parivaar,

Jai Shree Krishna
As you wish Nirupaji, please find below a short version of the story:
This varta goes back to the time when Shree Krishna had appeared on earth as Yashodaji and Nandbava’s son. In Gokul all the gopi’s were preparing for the Katyana Vrat; they were gathered near the river with their Zavera plants. As usual Thakorji was also there teasing all the Gopijan
Brahmaji was watching Thakorji from the heavens and repudiated to believe the fact that he was God, on top of that alleged him to be an amateur. Brahmaji wanted to teach Thakorji a lesson so he decided to steal all of his cows and friend (gope’s). He went down to earth and noticed that He was busy larking around with the gopi’s of Vraj, so he grabbed the opportunity and quickly fetched the cows and placed them in heaven. Seeing Thakorji play with all the gopi’s his suspicions grew and stated to himself that god would never hang around with a bunch of girls like that. He was pleased with his work and proceeded to earth to watch what the amateur would do.
He looked down and then rubbed his eyes, Brahmaji was stunned to see that all the cows were still there. He did not understand how that was possible and returned to heaven. There he saw that all the cows were also there, baffled he went back to Gokul and this time took all the Gope’s. Then again when he looked down he perceived that the gope’s were also still there.
He didn’t understand what was happening, he looked in heaven and observed the entire crowd of cow and Gope’s. Looking down he saw duplicate faces, he then realised that he had made a huge mistake. The boy who was standing there laughing away with the gopi’s was the Blissful Lord himself. He asked the Lord for forgiveness and pleaded for mercy.
Thakorji told Yashodaji what happened; she concluded that Brahmaji didn’t take Thakorji because the Zavera protected him. That is the reason she set Zavera on Thakorji every year without fail. Little did she know that her darling son was God himself and no Dev could harm him. It was all his leela
There is a lot more to this story and various reasons of why certain events took place. I humbly request a member of friday satsang to elaborate on the story
