Jai Shree Krishna pyara vaishnavs,

I have a question (or 2)...I know only a very little so please can someone elaborate on this for me please?

Wearing a kantti (please excuse the spelling) is absolutely essential once bhramsubandh has taken place as it represents the initiation with Thakorji and the soul's 'marriage' to Him.

I would like clarification on which swaroop/s the kantti represents and why as well as the importance and explanations of why it should be worn at all times - I know that taking even a step without wearing a kantti is regarded as sinful.

(Having posted this question, I just want to clarify that I do wear my kantti 24/7 religiously! Smile )

Thank you in advance
JSK

Jai Shree Krishna,

Nitalji its so nice to see you on tibari Smile Anyway, I have heard that the two kanti's a vaishnav wears represents Thakorji and Swaminji. Kanti is a swaroop of Thakorji and you must keep it on all the time as it keeps you purified. If you eat without wearing a kanti its like eating waste and drinking is like having blood.

Have also read in a varta that a vaishnav turned a demon-goddes into a vaishnav by simple placing a tulsi mala over her neck. Vaishnavs please elaborate as I do not know that much myself

Thanking You

JSK

Jai Shree Krishna

I have read that eating without kanthi is eating meat.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Jai Shri Krishna,

Usually it is one kanthi after naam mantra dixa but
One must wear two kanthis all the time after Brahmasamband 365 days a year.
One is with the bhav of Shri Swaminiji and the other bhav of Shri Thakurji.
Also one must change Kanthi after sutak (death in family etc.)

Jai Shree Krishna

Yes, on only naam Nivedanam, we have one KANTHI, but after full Brahmasambandh nivadan, a vaishnav have to wear two Kanthis. One for Thakorji and one for Shree Svaminiji (or Mahaprabhuji, that is Guruji). There are 365 Tulsi-salaki in a Kanthi which depicts 365 days of Thakorji's seva.

Why Kanthi is made out of Tulsi-salaka? In Pushtimarg, Tulsiji is very important personality, She is Thakorji's Charnodika. Charnodika means, She has accepted surrender with Thakorji and has acquired her place at Krishna's lotus feet. She is also has spiritual elements which is to purify cooked elements from evil eyes and also clears dosh (sins) within the cooked article. (These sins could have been entered into food during its preaparation.)

Due to above spiritual quality of Tulsiji, its small, thin but supple stems are chopped into less than one centimeter and is then dried. These dried stems are used as beads and kanthi is made. There are two main species of Tulsiji and they are Shyam Tulsi and Ram Tulsi. Shyam Tulsiji is the one which Pushtimargia Vaishnavs wears as Tuksi Kanthi.

According to Ved Puran Tulsiji is the queen of Tulsivan and has been graced by Thakorji, hence vaishnavs wear these tulsiji as "Mala".

It is been said that once the Tulsi Mala (Kanthi) is accepted around the neck after Brahmasambandh Diksha, Tulsiji protects Brain (soul) and also torso of a human sevak.Any thoughts or food is protected by tulsiji, so Kanthi is a very important article, gem of Pushti Vaishna, in fact it is a"mangal sutra" a symbol of a married woman, in this case vaishnav is in golden lock with thakorji.hence he wears tulsiji as sybol of marriage to Him.

Jai Shri Krishna,

Thanks Pushtidasji, for a nice explanation

Sitalji, you are correct, being a pushtimargiya vaishnav one must have kanthi before you eat, also just a quote from Bhagwad Gita

Lord Krishna says in BhagavadhgItha 3.13:

"The devotees of the Lord are released from all kinds of sins because they eat food which is offered first for sacrifice. Others, who prepare food for personal sense enjoyment, verily eat only sin."

Jai Shree Krishna

Thankyou Vasant Panjabi and Pushtidasji for your comments...Pushtidasji, you 'hit it on the button' as they say - you provided the answers to my underlying questions - thankyou for a lovely, insightful explanation.

So, by wearing a kanthi whilst cooking, if one's mind wonders into the materialistic thoughts, does the tulsi mala protect the samagri and keep it pure?

Jai Shree Krishna

Nitikaji,(Nitalji), one has to wear Kanthi all the time. Any samagaree when cooked in apras, will still needed to sanctify or purified by puting "Tulsidal" that is Tulsi leaf on the cooked food, this is known as "garnisgh" to you Palnaji. When samagree is brought in front of Seviya swaroop, we garnish every samagree with Tulsdal. Thus this way Tulsiji will purify the samagree before our Shreeji will accept the offerings.

JSK,

The kanthi has such an importance in a Vaishnavs life and yet there is only one page written on this? DEAREST Pusthidasji surely there must be more Laughing

I have notice people wearing gold mix kanthi's, so my question is, does this still hold the same value as a pure Tulsi-salki kanthi?

Jai Shree Krishna,
Nice question Hoshilji, just to expand on that, You mentioned there are 365 Tulsi-salaki echoing each day of the year. does it make a difference as to how many tulsi beads are on the Kantti? Is it any less or more meaningful if there are fewer or more salaki?
