Jai Shree Krishna,

Once upon a time there was a King named Suketmaan who was longing for a pious son. He was worried that there wasn't anyone who would take over his Dynasty, and after death they would have no descendant offering Tarpana (oblations of water) to their forefathers and themselves.

He was getting worse by the day, destroying himself slowly. Finally a day came and he mounted his horse and went off to the forest. Once he arrived at the forest he wandered about everywhere in great distress wondering why he was suffering so much. Eventually he came upon a beautiful lotus bearing pond that resembled the famous Lake Maanasarova.

There was sages surrounding the lake, chanting the holy names of god. The King dismounted his horse and paid his obeisances with folded hands. The Sages were please with his manners and asked the King why he had come to the lake?

In return the King asked the Sages who they were and why they had come to the Lake. The Sages replied:

‘Oh king, we are known as the ten Vishvadevas (the sons of Vishva; Vasu, Satya, Kratu, Daksha, Kaala, Kaama, Dhriti, Pururavaa, Maadrava, and Kuru). We have come here to this very lovely pond to bathe. The month of Magha (Madhava mase) will soon be here in five days (from the Magh nakshatra), and today is the famous Putradaa Ekaadasii. One who desires a son should strictly observe this particular Ekaadasii.’

The Kind responded by saying he has been longing for a son, and to please grant him with a boon so his wish can be fulfilled.

“ ‘The very meaning of Putradaa,’ the sages replied, ‘…is “giver of a putra, pious son.” So please observe a complete fast on this Ekaadasii day. If you do so, then by our blessing – and by the mercy of Lord Sri Keshava invested in us – surely you will obtain a son.’

So the king observed the fast, carefully abiding by all the rules and regulation. Soon his queen became pregnant and they had a beautiful son.

Please do correct any mistakes

JSK

Jai Shri Krishna,

Wow Sitalji keep it up good.

Now lets discuss who is this demi God in charge of Ekadashi.

Actually Ekadashi devi is a person who is in charge of the day of
Ekadashi. The diety of the Lunar day of Ekadashi was manifested from
Lord Vishnu Himself when he saw the suffering of the conditioned souls
in the material universe. So Ekadashi devi is a person who is in
control of the lunar day of Ekadashi and who has emanated from Lord
Vishnu Himself.

We have to understand that there is person behind the Management of
each and every thing in this universe. Hence the Vaishnava philosophy
is very much personal. And there is no room for impersonalism in
Vaishnava philosophy.

The Papa-purusha (the person in-charge of sinful activities) who was
creating troubles to the conditioned soul became afraid of Ekadashi
and finally asked Lord Vishnu where he could reside in order to
protect himself from Ekadashi. And Lord Vishnu said that he could take
shelter in the grains during the Ekadashi days. Hence eating grains on
the Ekadashi days is prohibited.

So please as discussed in earlier postings too one must stop eating grains on Ekadashi.

So no grains on Ekadashi am I correct Kavitaji, Sitalji and other vaishnavs !!!!!!!

Hope all will join in and observe this ekadashi.

Jai Shri Krishna,

As previously explained, everyone should observe the rules and regulations of the Ekaadasi vrata, to the very best of their ability. This injunction also applies to the Ekaadasi named Putradaa, which destroys all sins and elevates one to the spiritual abode. The Supreme Personality of Godhead Shri Narayana, the original personality, is the worshipable Deity of the Ekaadasi, and for His faithful devotees He happily fulfils all desires and awards full perfection. Thus among all the animate and inanimate beings in the three worlds (lower, middle and higher planetary systems), there is no better personality than Lord Narayana

Putrada Ekadashi, also known as Sunanda Ekdashi, arrives on the eleventh day of the month Posh. The meaning of the Putrada, as the name implies – “Putra” means child and “da” means giver. Observance of this Ekadashi fulfils the wishes of devotees.

In Bhavishyotar Puran, Shree Krishna declares to Yudhistir that the fruits of observing vratt on this day imparts knowledge, wealth and prestige in society. King Suketuman ruled the city of Bhadravati. He had a wife called Shailya. The King and Queen did not have a child of their own and both were very depressed and miserable because of this. They tried many ways of achieving an off-spring but all was in vain. Without a child, their heart and palace felt empty and soundless. They were in constant thoughts and ways of having a child. This was a heartbreaking tragedy for them, which continued for many long years and went to the extreme that on a few occasions the King even thought of committing suicide.

One year, on the eleventh day of the month of Posh, the King, without letting anyone know, rode off on his horse to go to the forest this story already described by Sitalji.

jai sri krishna.

dear vaishnavs, there is a small story of ashta sakha sri kumbandasji from seva riti priti vrajjan ki pustak. if any mistakes please correct.
ashta sakha sri kumbandasji and his wife went to sri acharyajis sharan. that time his wife asked for bearing sons as a boon . that day was posh sud ekadashi. apsri gave her a boon of bearing seven sons. and sri kumbandasji had seven sons but from those only two of them namely krushnadas and chatrabhujdas became mahan bagwad bakats. once sri gusaiji asked sri kumbandasji that how many sons he had. instead of saying that he had seven sons he replied that he had only one and a half sons. sri gusaiji asked for the reason behind it and he explained that
gopijanoni bhaav anusar sanyog ane viprayog rup ( prabhu seva ) ane naam( kirtan ) ne je seva kare che, te chatrabhujdas akho putra che, ane krushnadas keval sri govardhannathji ni gayo ni seva kare che te ardho putra che. aa rite sri kumbandasji gopijanno na nigud bhav ne prakat kari, potani maha aalokik bhaavatamak stiti ne jaanhitharthe prakashi che. the later part i dint understand , please explain. Smile

Jai Shri Krishna,

Kavitaji a good question what Shri Kumbhandasji is saying is though he had seven sons but according to him it is only one and a half.

The reason being if the son is not in seva or satsang and not doing kirtans or taking interest in alokik lilas of Shri Krishna is acutally no son of mine.

So one son Krishnadasji he says is only half because he only took care of the cows so he is not complete as he has still not realised Shri Krishna well.

The other which was Chaturbhujdas he is one of the Ashtachaap poets as we know.

He was full time engrossed in Krishna Lilas and seva he also sang most of the kirtans. Shri Goverdhan liked him a lot and they used to play together too so he was a complete son.

Hope this clears your doubt.

Jai Shri Krishna

Vaikuntha Ekadasi is not any specific Ekadasi but celebrated on a day
which corresponds to the morning time of demigods in Heavanly planet.
This Ekadasi may fall on any Ekadasi day, most of the time on Moksada
Ekadasi day but this time, it happens to be on Putrada Ekadasi day.

The Vedic literatures describe that as one moves towards the higher planetary systems of this universe, time dilates, in the sense that the time span increases. One day on earth is many years on the lower planetary systems. Similarly, one year of earth is equal to a single day (and night) of heavenly planets. Time further dilates as one moves higher up towards more advanced planetary systems.

A Chaturyuga is made of four ‘sub-yugas’. Kaliyuga, the present age of quarrel and mismanagement, lasts 432,000 years, of which 5225 years have passed. The previous yuga, Dvaparayuga, when Lord Krsna appeared on earth, lasts twice as much, or 864,000 years. The yuga previous to it, Tretayuga, lasts three times as much as kaliyuga, and the earliest yuga, Satyayuga, lasts four times as much. Totally, one Chaturyuga lasts 4,320,000 years.

A thousand such Chaturyugas make just one day of Brahma, the topmost living entity in this universe, who resides on the most glorious planet in this universe- Brahmaloka. And his night is as long. His year is again, 365 days, and he lives for a full hundred years. That is the life span of this universe (4,320,000x1000x2x365x100 years as per our calculation).

As said before, one year on earth is equal to one day (and night) on heavenly planets, the planet of the demigods. Every morning, Lord Vishnu arrives at the entrance of the Vaikuntha Planets, which are situated beyond this material universe, and gives ‘darshan’ to all demigods who come there to see Him everyday.

‘Everyday’ for the demigods means ‘every year’ to us. And the day of the demigods begins at the time of Vaikuntha Ekadashi on earth. Therefore, having a glimpse of the Lord on this day is considered most auspicious. One must on this day have a darshan of His Shri Thakurji.
