Shri Kalyanraiji

Date of Birth:

7th day of the dark half of month Margashirsha in V.S. 1625.

Family:

He was the son of the second son of Shri Vitthalanatha-prabhucharana, Shri Govindraiji and father of well known Acharya Shri Hariraiji and Shri Gopeshwarji.

Episodes:

The incident of Shri Keshavapuri in his regard is well known. One of Shri Vallabhacharya’s brothers had taken Sannyas and was named Shri Keshavapuri. Once Keshavpuri came to Gokul to see Shri Vitthalanatha-Prabhucharana with a view to adopt one of his sons to his Ashram as his successor. Shri Kalyanaraiji heard that talk. Being of tender age he remained worried whole night. The next morning he requested Shri Vitthalnatha-prabhucharana by a historical Kirtan with full heart
“Hon Vraja Manganoju Vraja taja anat na jaun” (english translation removed for clarity)

Hearing this, Shri Vitthalanatha-prabhucharana took him to his lap very lovingly and assured him not to hand him over to anyone.

Sree Gusainji ke dweetiya putra sri Govidaraiji ke putra sree Kalyanraiji ke prakatya utsav ki sabhi vaishnavo ko hardik badhaai.

CHILDHOOD:- Shri Bade Kalyanrayji, the eldest son of Shri Govindji was born in Gokul (U.P.) in v.s. 1625. He was Shri Gusainji's first grand-son and was given the Astakshar mahamantra by him. Shri Gusainji used to make him play by reciting this mantra and eventually gave him Brahmsambandh mantra as well. Shri Kalyanrayji was a master in Sanskrit grammer,Vedant, Geeta, Bhagwat, Puranas, etc. He was taught by his father Shri Govindji and by Shri Gusainji's fourth son, Shri Gokulnathji.

PRASANG:-{1} The naming of Shri Kalyanrayji by Lord Shri Nathji himself is a famous story. Once, while Shri Govindji was adorning Shrinathji, his eldest son was being born. It was Paush Krishna Saptami. Lord Shri Nathji blessed Shri Govindji with the words “Govind ke Kalyan bhaye” (the son of Shri Govindji “Kalyan” has been born). Upon hearing this, Shri Govindji was delighted and considered himself most fortunate. In celebration of this birth, Shri Nathji accepted the offering of an emerald ring from Shri Govindji and it was hence added to Shri Nathji's ornaments.

PRASANG:-{2} Shri Kalyanrayji's generosity was notable since his childhood. Once, Shri Gusainji's uncle “Keshwpuri”came to Gokul and requested a son from Shri Gusainji to be a successor for his Ashram. Shri Gusainji's third son Shri Balkrishnaji spoke up and said, "whoever amongst us does not have a deity to worship will go with you". At the time each of Shri Gusainji's seven sons had already had a deity bestowed to them. Child Shri Kalyanrayji heard this and thought that because he did not have a deity that he would be offered to Keshwpuri. He then bowed before all his elders and prayed humbly and sang hymns (dhadi) in which he expressed his profound desire to always live in Brij and never leave. “Hon Brij mangan zo Brij taz anat n jaihon” Upon hearing this Shri Gusaiji was totally pleased and took him into his lap. He fed him his own chewed betal leaf and through this he bestowed upon him the highest loving mood towards Shri Krishna. It is writtten in the Shrimad Bhagawat: “Charvitam eiti sadhan prayasa bhawen sidhhi danam(10/33/13)

QUALITIES:- Shri Kalyanrayji led a great devotional life. Some of his qualities are revealed in his108 names composed by his eldest son Shri Harirayji: “Somya sima, Madhur bhashn, Bhagwat bhayuak" These names describe his placid disposition, sweet speech and loving emotions toward Shrimad Bhagawatji. He also travelled to various places to uplift souls and direct them to the devotional path. He wrote various remarkable commentaries on works of Shri Valbhacharya such as the 16 works (Shodas Granths), Tatva deep nibandh notes and several nirnay grantha. He had three sons, Shri Harirayji, Shri Gopeshwarji, Shri Vitthaleshji. He devoted his whole life to worshipping Shri Krishna, giving satsang and spreading the philosophy of Shri Vallabhacharyaji...
