Jai Shri Krishna
Manishji,
as per my limited understanding Pushtimargi vaishnavs have the following understanding:
1) Ganga Snan
2) Yamuna Paan
as per the varta prasang, once a father of a young vaishnav took him to gangaji to have his mundan (shaving the head - hair cutting) ... as this would bestow lokik merits as they are prescribed in the scriptures
upon approaching the sacred place, the young vaishnav realised the importance and sacredness of the place and the presiding deity of that place and at once decided not to have his hair cut there as the hair disposed in the holy place would pollute the place with his hair and so he went 5 miles out of town.
(we also have a custom to have a full bath after having a hair-cut...)
now if just throwing some hair in the holy place were to pollute the scantity of the place, imagine what happens if we dispose of our ashes (which contain bones, etc)
-- However, holy places such as Gangaji (not all, but certain designated places-ghats), Gayaji, etc have been designated as the place for performing last rites _________________ Best Wishes
