Bhadra Pad Krishna 8 Jammashtami Maha Mahotsav

This day is Celebrated as Shree Krishna Jayanti i.e. Maha Mahotsav of appearance of Shree Purna Purushottam Lord Shree Krishna. In the morning, Shree Prabhu is consecrated with Panchamrutam. Firstly, Shree Vasudevji did the darshan of Four armed Purna Purushottam Lord Shree Krishna. Thus Vasudevji did the poojan of this swaroop. With this bhav, panchamrutam is done.

In shrungar darshan, Shree Prabhu is offered Tilak and Janma Patrika is read before Shree Prabhu.

After the shayan aarti in the evening, kirtans of Janmashtami badhai are sung upto 11:30 pm, which is termed as "Jagran". After that the 8 shlokas of Krishna Janma from Shree mad Bhagwat Mahapuran are recited three times and after that with the Ghanta Naad, Nagada, Maadal, and Jhanj, Pakhawaj, kirtans are played during the time of Krishna Janma at about 12:00 in midnight. After this, Panchamrutam snan is done to Shree Shaligram ji or Shree Balkrishanji (as per the Pranalika of respective Ghar


There are four types of Badhai of Janmashtami. The types are listed as below:

1. Badhai of Jhanj: This starts before one month of Janmashtami. From this day onwards, Jhanj (instrument made from brass) are played. This badhai is of the bhav of Shree Yamunaji.

2. Badhai of Naubat: This starts before 12 days of Janmashtami. From this day onwards, Naubat (A musical instrument) is played. This is of the bhav of Shree Chandravaliji.

3. Badhai of Geetanvaari: This starts before 8 days of Janmashtami. This is the bhav of Shree Nand Kumarikas.

4. Badhai of Maadal: This starts before 8 days of Janmashtami which is the bhav of Shree Swaminiji.

Badhai of janmashtami starts before approximately 1 month. The reason being 15 days of Shree Yashodaji and 15 days of Rohiniji. Also, there is another bhav - 15 days of Shree Mahaprabhuji and 15 days of Shree Gusaiji. This four types of badhai are sung and seva prakaar (Procedure) is observed with the bhav of four yuthadhipatis (4 groups of Shree Swmainijis of Shree Thakurji).
