Jai Shree Krishna

Dvadas Tilak means twelve tilaks.

What are dvadas tilak? Why dvadas? Do women and men (vaishnav) do dvadas tilak?

Jai Shree Krishna,
Thank you Nirupaji and Unnatiji for both the question and the answer. I do however have a query. Why is it that only men wear Tilak and what is the correlation between each tilak and each body part, what do they mean and why?

Jai jai shri gokulesh

Thanx for the kind words...

Why is it that only men wear Tilak?

Married women and unmarried girls should do bindi on forehead with Kumkum (Red turmeric powder). They should not do Urdhwapundra (U-shaped) and the Dandakaar (2 lines) tilak, as this is the limitations stated. The bindi done by females refers to the limitation of Kul, Dharma and Love for husband.

Jai Shree Krishna

Thankyou Unnatiji, could you please let me know in which pusthi-book these limitations are stated explaining that woman are prohibited to wear tilak's as I am slightly confused. Is it not true that all pusthi souls who are male and female on bhutal are in fact all sakhi's? The tilak a man wears on his head is a representation of his marriage to god so then why is the woman forbidden to wear a tilak? I’ve always assumed that a pushtimarg woman’s bindi and a man’s tilak have the equivalent connotation’s, both shows their connection with Thakorji. I would be grateful if someone could elaborate

Thanks

Jai jai shri gokulesh

Thanx to all...Shitalji females does tilak but not as similar to the tilak done by males i.e. Urdhwapundra (U-shaped) and the Dandakaar (2 lines) tilak. Females does a round bindi...

And the reference book is "Shri Dandakardevakar"

Thank you Unnatiji.

The tilaks that woman wear are mostly in the form of a bindi, however I have heard that woman are allowed to wear u-shaped tilaks.

Jai Shree Krishna

Thanks Unnatiji for the lovely reply and Trushaji for the added information. I understand that both female and male wear different types of tilaks as there is a long history behind it and it’s the Vedic dress that women wear. Women have always worn bindi and they look nice with the whole Indian attire. However, the point I am trying to make is that we live in the western culture and when you are going to work it’s not feasible to put a proper tilak on your forehead. If such a situation arose where a woman was attending a vaishnav’s house for satsang straight after work, happened to forget to take a bindi with her and found the husband’s tilak equipment in the car. Would it be against siddhant for a woman to apply a U-shaped tilak?

Sorry for asking so many question?

jai jai shrigokulesh

Females r not allowed to do Tilaks, either be U shaped or || shaped tilaks, There r the restrictions for females.

Even today we find some anyamaargi females doing tilaks on their forehead, but that is not the right way. Even Females r restricted to wear Dwij (janoi) on their body. But we find some pravaahi margs giving diksha of janoi to females, which we should always keep in mind that females r restricted,Moreover for Shank, which is been blown during darshan times, females cannot blow shank.
